This had taken a number of years to accomplish of course and things weren’t going swimmingly when I looked for another income stream.
It was the nature of the work than meant I was unemployed for a number of months throughout the year. Some years I didn’t work at all. So I took a number of jobs in-between getting the stunt work.
By my late 30’s I was pretty tired of this pattern. When I worked it was feast, but when it was quiet it was famine! I worked in a number of jobs to cover the lean times including office work, HGV driving, TV extras work and whatever I could find. But I was growing weary of it and things didn’t seem to be getting any better.
I was trapped by the income from the stunts, but tired of the pattern. I didn’t know how to escape the cycle.

I had also used the internet to subsidise my income from the film industry. On a number of occasions I had bought and sold items to make a small profit and I thought I could turn this into a reasonable income. It was worth a try but after several months of buying and selling online, I was nowhere different!
Looking through eBay one day, I bought an ebook which showed a strategy for making money on eBay. I share the strategy in my blog post here. But it was the ebook itself which lit a spark in me! It was the same spark that I had when I heard about a local stuntman (in Morecambe UK) while working as a lifeguard so many years earlier.
What struck me about the ebook was that the sale was automated and it was written by someone with a simple idea. I bought the ebook instantly. I realised that this was the future! Selling digital downloadable products over the internet. It meant I could make income without physically being there! It was a passive income source and globally scalable!

Once I got searching online for online businesses, I was inundated with success stories of how such and such internet guru made so many millions etc. etc. My inbox was full of junk from all the internet guru’s who claimed they had some magic formula!
But this was slightly later on. At first I tried (in vain) to create my own ebooks. I did one on how to be a stuntman. This didn’t go down well at all with the stunt community! So I abandoned this idea!
After several attempts I decided I didn’t know what I was doing. I needed help. So I joined a number of online training courses which promised riches within a few months!

Well, believe it or not a few months went by and nothing much happened. I had tried a number of strategies and built several websites. Why wasn’t I a millionaire yet! I has seen a tiny tickle income from one of my websites but it was nothing to write home about.
Over the next few years I bought various courses and tried various strategies. Luckily I was able to pick up stunt work which always managed to bail me out just when things got difficult financially. I worked a few jobs in between too.
My best results were a small trickle income from a website, an affiliate sale from an article I had written and a number of sales from a paid advert I had run before Google shut down my account! Something always managed to come up when things were working. Google wouldn’t reinstate my Adwords (paid advertising) account so I turned to the organic strategies and started again.
If you’ve ever tried to rank content on Google organically, you’ll probably know how hard it is. Particularly in the competitive niche of affiliate marketing. If you don’t know about affiliate marketing let me explain. Simply put affiliate marketing is an online business model which allows you to sell other people’s products to make commissions. With digital products you can earn up to 40% of the cost price of an item too!
And since this strategy seemed to give me the best results early on, this is where I focused my attention.
Another Online Course!
I had gone through many of these online courses so far. Some of them I had gleamed some wisdom from, and some not so much. Mostly though I was down financially, even after all the work I had put in. I had over 100 websites by this point, most of which earned nothing!
But I knew this was the answer for me. So I stuck at it and decided I would die before I quit!
I joined another course called The Keyword Academy which claimed to teach keyword strategies and building authority sites to rank on Google. I followed this strategy but would get easily distracted back then by the shiny objects (internet courses) which promised a fast buck and less work! They worked for the owners anyway, if not for me! They just needed a mug like me!
After abandoning many of my websites, which weren’t performing, I went through a number of stages of defeat and gave up a few times. Despite my resolve never to quit.

My scepticism and cynicism were at full power after all the times I had tried and failed. But I found another course and carried on. This time it was going to work (I told myself).
This time was different though. Through the years I had done many courses online but I was always working on my own. There was never anyone else to help me. This time I met people in the real world.
After I was referred to this company by a guy named Oliver, I was still pretty sceptical. But I went through the course material and Oliver actually helped me make a few sales by running a co-operative advertising pool himself. My first high ticket sale came in and it was a great moment.
I went to a physical training day too in London and my layers of scepticism slowly dissolved.
Things Weren’t Easier – They Were Clearer
Building an online business isn’t easy at the best of times. But with people on hand to help and encourage me, things were so much better. Rather than struggling away on my own in the dark, I had found a number of already successful online entrepreneurs who were actually showing up, in person and online.
I’ve been able to make a number of high ticket sales and gain a lot of clarity through joining The SFM (Six Figure Mentors). It’s still a work in progress but if you’re thinking of taking the entrepreneurs path, I definitely recommend joining this community.
You don’t need any experience to do so and all the training and software you need is on one place. If you think you’re too old, or lack the technical skills don’t worry. Many of the skills I learned years ago are now completely redundant such as website building because new software has made it far easier to build an online business from scratch.

How the law of attraction led me to an online business was through a desperate need for more financial stability and purpose. I knew also that there was a better way to live and work. An online business gives you the freedom to work around your interests and passions and prioritise your life according to your needs rather than your employers.
An online business can allow you to stop trading all your time for money and getting caught up in the necessity for a job which doesn’t bring satisfaction and happiness. For me, being a stuntman was the ultimate job. But over time I was caught up in it while needing it for the freedom it gave me. I didn’t know it but I was trapped by the golden handcuffs of the career I once wanted!
