The subconscious mind and law of attraction are intricately linked. You can’t use the law of attraction without the subconscious mind being involved in the process.
Napoleon Hill states in his book Think and Grow Rich “The subconscious mind is a fertile garden spot, in which weeds will grow in abundance, if seeds of a more desirable nature are not sewn therein”.
Thoughts then are the seeds which are grown in the “garden” of the subconscious mind. So choose thoughts carefully because although they don’t have much power by themselves, over time and with continued “feeding”, they grow into ideas, beliefs and attitudes. These do have power; power to create your perfect life or your worst nightmare!
Subconscious Mind And Law Of Attraction
The subconscious mind also harbours fears and you will draw your subconscious fears to you by the energy you give to them. Likewise, you can continue to “feed” dreams, goals and desires until you embed them in your subconscious mind.
When you are focused on what you want, believe it will happen and also expect to receive it, you know you are aligned with the good you expect and deserve to receive. But when you don’t believe it will happen, you send a muddied message to your subconscious mind. If your desire and expectation are not in alignment, you cut yourself off from what you truly desire.
So belief, desire and expectation are all important in manifesting what you want using the subconscious mind and law of attraction. See Raymond Holliwell’s book Working With The Law.
Subconscious Mind And The Law Of Attraction
Many make the mistake of praying for their desires in one breath, while talking against them in another. This is a conflict of the mind before it becomes an actual physical situation, or circumstance. Or, it is installed in the mind from another’s experience of lack, for example.
Much of the programming of the subconscious mind comes from childhood. When we are too young to object to information presented to us, we accept it as if it were the truth. Our conscious mind’s filtering process is turned off in childhood and we absorb everything like a sponge. Think about everything we learn from such as early age: from crawling to walking, dribbling to talking in a matter of a few years.
As we grow older, some of this programming is helpful, and some of it isn’t.
Subconscious Mind’s Lack & Limitation
If we are told to “make do” and that to want more is to be “greedy” we might for example cut ourselves off from what we desire to please a parent, or keep the peace. As we grow older, this tendency can get in the way of creating the life you truly want and desire.
Any subconscious beliefs which stop you from growing and attaining anything you genuinely want and desire, can hold you back. Here’s a few common beliefs which will definitely stop you from growing, enjoying life or being happy:
- You only need enough
- Money makes people greedy
- Rich people are greedy/selfish
- Money is the root of evil
- Thou Shall not want
- Wanting things is against God’s will
- Life is hard
- Only selfish people have fun
- Struggling is noble
- Poverty makes you more spiritual
Do any of these ideas gel with you? If so you may be holding onto unconscious ideas which are limiting your growth and stopping you from living a more fruitful and happy life.
Getting Your “Ducks” In A Row
To use the law of attraction and the subconscious mind together in unison is like getting your “ducks in a row”. You align your beliefs, attitudes, desires and expectations and become happy now, knowing things are coming about in your future too.
If you hold yourself back in any way, you’ll be lacking the natural joy and enthusiasm which comes from naturally allowing life to uncover itself to you. Being in the moment and feeling good is important for the law of attraction. Without feeling good right now in this moment, you’ll be holding thoughts contrary to what it is you really want (or trying too hard to “get” something, rather than allowing with ease and flow). If you give attention only to those things you desire and expect (if they are in alignment), you’ll naturally become a lot happier (and achieve things with less struggle).
If however, you hold negative thoughts about yourself, your situation or about some form of judgement, you’ll be giving energy to what you don’t really want.
Getting your “ducks in a row” just feels good. So you’ll know when you’re on the right track just because it feels good. Let go of any negative or self judging thinking and allow things to happen for your greatest good. This can sometimes mean letting go of what you think you should want (or should do), rather than going with what you actually want (without judgement).
“The attitude of getting is the law of life in a congested state” “As long as “getting” dominates a mind, that mind is in a paralyzed condition, being limited in its action in accord with the fundamental law of creation.” – Raymond Holliwell Working With The Law
Using The Subconscious Mind To Create Your Path
Many law of attraction teachers and practitioners attest to the power of visualisation to help them impart an idea onto the subconscious mind. See Shakti Gawain Creative Visualisation.
This is a good place to start if you’re not sure where to begin. Get into a nice relaxed state of mind. It can help to do this just on waking up or just before you go to sleep at night.
Imagine the outcome you want to manifest in your life. It could be a house, a relationship, or some financial situation or circumstance. Try and get all your senses working together while doing this. Use smell, sight, sound and emotion to generate the good feelings you associate with the images you create.
You can also use what’s called a meta-story. A meta story is a made up story which you create from an existing memory. This is powerful because you can draw upon existing memories which actually happened in your history. Use sights and sounds which you can remember and overlay another, better story on top of the old, existing memory.
To learn more about this strategy, read Stuart Lichtman’s book on cybernetic-transposition.
Stuart’s strategy has been proven in test studies and lets you align all parts of the brain when focusing on your objective. Most people get this part of visualisation wrong. They only focus one part of the brain on their objective. Other parts compete for attention and the focus is lost. To get the subconscious mind working for you creating your (new) reality, you need to get it focused on your objective so it’s working in the background, even when you are not consciously focused on it.
