What is the law of attraction? When I first saw the film The Secret I knew this was something I already knew, deep down in my soul. I started straight away, imagining my perfect lifestyle. Before long I grew tired and stopped. It wasn’t working! So, I gave up!
I went back to my mundane life and thought nothing about it. Only when things started getting really bad did I come back to The Law Of Attraction. See my about me page.
I studied the law of attraction which seemed to say that thoughts become things, what you focus on grows and you manifest things over time by the things you dwell on. But did it work?
What Is The Law Of Attraction – Manifesting A “Better” Life
When I first discovered the law of attraction, I was a sceptic. I tried it out for a few hours and nothing exciting happened! I thought I understood it, but I was still operating from my egoic mind, losing patience when nothing magical happened straight away!
Then, I threw it away! Guess what, life pretty much carried on as before. It was only when I really began to study what the LOA really was that things began to change.
What Is The Law Of Attraction- Habit
Most of people’s lives operate on habit. Habits make and break us. Without habit there would need to be a lot of will power and self motivation going on. Our thoughts too are habits. We often think the same thoughts over many years, viciously defending our points of view. It is the habits of our thinking which have the power to change our lives.
Henry Ford “Whether a man thinks he can or he can’t, he’s right”
What Is The Law Of Attraction – Visualising
Do you visualise? Of course you do. Even if you think you don’t, you do! Don’t you ever think about passionate affairs you’ve had or would like to have? Do you ever think about standing up to someone who’s been holding you down for years? Often, the strongest most compelling visualisations are emotive and physical.
They are the language of the sub-conscious mind – pictures and feelings. They stir you up and motivate you in a certain direction. They are the powerful “drips” which create lives over many years. Whether you fantasise about making love, fighting, earning lots of money or taking that much needed holiday, it is our regular emotionally filled thoughts and day dreams which direct us most.
Thinking Saying and Doing – What Is The Law Of Attraction?
There’s a huge difference between thinking, saying and doing. It there’s a disparity, the lack of congruence can cause a lot of conflict and frustration.
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. – Mahatma Ghandi
Thoughts have power because they influence speech and action. They also are the seeds of belief. Belief is powerful because your actions are all built on your beliefs.
Napoleon Hill -(Think and Grow Rich) “…the subconscious mind {resembles} a fertile garden spot, in which weeds will grow in abundance, if the seeds of more desirable crops are not sown therein.”
Most people aren’t conscious of the many words they say over and over to themselves. This is the principle of autosuggestion.
AUTOSUGGESTION is the agency of control through which an individual may voluntarily feed his subconscious mind on thoughts of a creative nature, or, by neglect, permit thoughts of a destructive nature to find their way into this rich garden of the mind. – Napoleon Hill
Belief & The Law Of Attraction
You might say you don’t believe in the law of attraction. Whether you believe in it or not doesn’t matter at all. The circumstances and events and outcomes in your life are still determined (to an extent) by the nature of your thinking, whether you believe it or not. Perhaps you have a very nice life and have no need to investigate such matters? It is often through difficulty that someone might come to look for answers.
Circumstance
If you have a nice job, life and circumstances are good in your life, why bother with the law of attraction right? But if things aren’t great for you, you might want to make some changes, as I did.
How can you use the law of attraction to change your life then? By changing your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes.
I Want It Now! – Patience Grasshopper
“But I want it now!” Yep that was me. I wanted it straight away and had the false idea that just by thinking of that £10,000 I needed, I could ‘manifest’ it out of thin air with no work on my behalf. I did manifest it, but it took a different route than I was hoping for!
You need to give the universe some time to deliver what you really want. You need to be patient and trust the process. This was what was missing for me when I started trying to apply the law of attraction. I wanted it now. Then I got impatient, then I became angry.
Guess what, I kept manifesting difficult, challenging circumstances and conflict. Why?? Because I was angry. My thoughts were largely full of angry conflict and that’s what I created.
Old Wounds Heal Slow
Trapped energy from our past can wreak havoc in our lives if it goes unchecked. Perhaps you’ve had a nasty break up? Or maybe you had a childhood trauma? It can show up later in life in many ways. If your mind is drawn continuously to an uncomfortable event or trauma, you’re sending strong signals to your subconscious mind on a constant basis. Or, an old wound can make you protect yourself by avoiding situations which will help you grow.
Glass Ceilings
If you’re trying to accomplish something new in life like create a good relationship, move forwards in your career or build your own business, limiting beliefs can haunt you for decades if you don’t uncover them. For example, if you have limiting thoughts around money or status, you’ll find it difficult to increase your income levels.
If you don’t believe you’re lovable, you’re relationships will suffer. What other baggage are you carrying around from your history and belief system which isn’t serving you? Often we don’t know unless we attempt to change certain aspects of our lives. They these little blockages and glass ceilings of what we believe is possible will show up and cause us difficulty. That’s the law of attraction showing up! You can’t attract something into your life, if you don’t believe you’re good enough, or you believe you’re unworthy.
Conflict
Think about your dream life and your current life. What’s the difference? What did you dream of becoming when you were a child? What are you now? The difference is often a compromise. You wanted to be something, but were told it was out of reach. You maybe wanted to be a millionaire but compromised to ‘fit in’ with others expectations or because there was too much work involved.
I want a fantastic body and a great physique. But I also want to eat whatever I like and not work out every day! So I get something in between. If you want six pack abs, be prepared to work hard at the gym, learn the right nutrition and avoid those things like parties, alcohol and snacking.
The decision is usually made in your mind whether you’re prepared to work for those things you say you really want in life. If you’re not prepared to do the work, you can’t have the outcome you want! So you get the results you deserve, not the results you want.
You Get What You Are, Not What You Want
The law of attraction allows you to attract people circumstances and situations into your life so you can make better decisions about what you really want. It’s always a work in progress. Thinking about what you want constantly doesn’t bring it instantly into your life.
Shortly after watching The Secret movie (Rhonda Bryne), I imagined myself driving a nice new car, several years ago. I had no money and no job! Shortly after I got a job doing meet and greet parking at the airport. I got to drive some awesome new cars including a Jaguar XF which was amazing.
I wasn’t specific enough in my visualisation to create a great car that I owned! This was what I really wanted! But it worked fast – I got to drive some awesome brand new cars!
Gratitude
Ultimately the law of attraction gives you want you are, not what you want. If you’re stuck in the energy vibration of wanting all the time, you’re pushing away a better life which grows out of being grateful for what you already have.
Unless you train your mind to focus on gratitude, you won’t be thankful for long for any experience, gift or circumstance. You’ll fall back again into want and desire and long for something new again. Never satisfied with what is, you’ll constantly look for something else other than what you have.
Gratitude is something mentioned in many books on the law of attraction.
Wanting and Being Needy
Have you ever been around someone who is really needy or desperate? How do you react? Have you had a relationship with someone who is needy and desperate all the time? If so you’ll realise how exhausting it can be. If you’re doing this on any level, you can guarantee you’re pushing things, people and circumstances away from you through wanting them too much.
Gratitude is one of the quickest ways to change your vibration. It makes you instantly happier and softens the energy of desperation and neediness.
